LIONHEAD UPDATE..........
Dear ARBA Members:
There has been a great
deal of confusion regarding the status of the Lionhead breed as a result of the
failing
of the Tortoise Lionhead presentation at the 84th ARBA Convention
in Grand Rapids, MI.
Below is an excerpt from the Standards Committee Report
submitted by Chairman Mike Avesing.
The committee report will appear in its
entirety when published in the November-December issue
of the Domestic
Rabbits Magazine.
Please read this information carefully.
Should you
have questions regarding this issue, please contact the ARBA office for assistance.
With
regards,
Brad Boyce
ARBA Executive Director

(In regard to the Lionhead presentation) - "This was the second failure at
a second showing. Presentation rights now
pass to Gail Gibbons of MN. Her
breed COD is issued for Chestnut Agoutis, Sable Points, Torts, REWs,
and Siamese
Sables. Gail will be eligible to present at the convention in Kentucky next year.
Gail recently revised
her standard to match Arden Wetzel's. Thus, the standard
she will be presenting under will be the same as the
current working standard
for Lionheads with the obvious exception of the additional varieties. Arden's
working
standard will expire with the publication of this (Nov/Dec 2007) issue
of Domestic Rabbits, so we are again back
to the position of possibly having
several differing standards avalable for exhibitors to use when exhibiting
Lionheads
at shows. Although it is certainly not mandatory, common sense would dictate that
all exhibitors use
Gail's standard as it currently has the best chance of
acceptance. There are slight differences between the
Wetzel/Gibbons standard
and the Mueller and Guth standards. Since Gail now has presentation rights, it
makes
sense to breed to her standard. It also makes no sense to me to present
a judge at a show with a couple
of different Lionhead standards, requiring
some of the entry to be judged under one standard and some
under another.
An additional ramification of the Lionhead working standard expiring is that shows
are no longer
required to accept entries of Tort Lionheads since they are
no longer under a working standard. Lionheads can still
be shown but shows
are under no obligation to accept Lionhead entries."
