transforming the
Gardens

after the big gardens and ponds we had in Minnesota
Gail just needed gardens to be happy again.

Our Flowers Our Vegatable Garden
The front yard
The north yard
the dog yard & deck
The" way back"
west side
The south yard
driveway & vegtable garden
The front yard is now flanked by two large gardens
one tha runs along a split rail fence by the road

and a new stone faced one that parrels the road up by the house
on the right side of the porch

In addtion we have been reworking the area on the left side
of the front porch. It proved too shady for most the plants we put
in the first year and is now becomeing a lovely Hosta bed.

The front yard has been leveled and seeded
and looks ever so much better.

Gail hates triming and so she created this small garden around
the base of the old exsisting Cedar tree and the young Maple
we planted in summer 2008 to replace it. So now we can
just make a nice oval sweep arond the trees when mowing.
a new arbor with climbing roses amd broken stone sidewalk
now great friends. The concrete steps will be pulled out this
fall and replaced with a ramp so teh house will be acessable
to everyone who visits us.

2009 was the year of the outside.
We built a deck and a "Zen Garden", on the north side.
Put in a large stone faced garden bed, replace the front walk with
a new broken stone walkway and a welcoming rose arbor.

We had dirt brought in to raise the fornt yard which flooded
whenever we had much rain.

We ordered "black dirt" but recieved this hard clay soli that is all over Kansas. A bobcat spred it and fille dthe stone flowerbed, but it tooks weeks of work to level it and break it up so we coudl plant grass see.

Re-doing the front yard

When we started cleanup of the yard we thought
we would never get to this point! We are very happy
with how the yard is turning out.

our reward - baby grass at last!!!

making progress . . . . . . . .
The Gardens 2008

The yard from the front porch. We have added a low
split rail fence on one side and now have a nice garden
along the front road. Sara and Gail spend a lot of their
free time out there.

Small garden on the right side
of the porch .
It was replace in spring 2009
with a long stone front garden.
The bird feeders where moved
to he back yard in teh winter
of 2008 to portect the birds from
the town's cats.

The garden as you come out of
the north door into the side yard. It held
pre-established daylilies but we added
peonies, flowering bushes and Iris.

Beautiful double daylillies found
all over the yard.

There is also a smaller 2nd daylily bed.

In addition to the flowers we have discovered two apple trees, a pear tree (covered with pears this year), two plum trees plus Mulberry and Pecan.

we have come so far!!!
finding the sidewalk!
The house the end of March.

The front yard late spring after we moved in.
