Sara Berks' Bedroom
like stepping back in time, a simply lovely little space

The decision to replace the roof and do this renovation came on suddenly when a friend in town had some spare vacation time. We were just making plans to redo some additional floors after our great success in the master bedroom but as life often just flows in our world we found this change of plans.

Sara loved the period look that Gail was trying for in the rest of the house and carried that theme into her room. It is still a work in progress but she is making great strides.

You enter this room through a
doorway off the mudroom at the
back of the house. There is a
closet to the left as you enter and
an old antique dresser to the right.

The dresser that sits on the long bearing
wall the huge mirror makes the room look much larger.

She is still looking for a dresser lamp.

Part of the bed is tucked under in
a "cove", that will have book shelves
on one side and deeper shelves on
the other.

Sara busy painting trim and doors.

The room is taking shape, the ceiling fan is up
and so is the cute little shelf cabinet that Sara
found at a local second hand store for just $5.00.

after the room was re-roofed
we put in a bearing wall to
support the new beam we had installed. (This one will NOT break!)
This also divided the room
into two equal smaller rooms.

looking into the room
To use the space the best she could, Sara choose to tuck her bed in to a section of the room length closet and create a "cove".

We installed new window that is
larger and will allow more light in
and keep out more heat and cold
then the old single pain glass one did.

looking towards the doorway

the room has a closet that is 6 feet
by 3 1/2 feet (good size) right inside
the door. The door to this room opens
into the mudroom and is right across
from the bath.

The ceiling is vaulted to the
bearing wall which makes the room
seem larger.

what was . . . . . . .

This room had ceiling and floor damage due leaking water. The seller had promised to repair that damage as part of the purchase of the house. When it came time to fix it he claimed he did not realize the extent and so back peddled to giving us some money back. The $800 did not even cover half of the materials. Our only other option of court and that seems like just another money pit so we put our money into replacing the entire roof.

the Big bedroom
rotten floor boards under moldy carpet, the ceiling was coming
down due to water damage. Originally we were told it was a leak
around a vent - time proved it was damaged wood roofing and a collapsed bearing beam.
