The long awaited HORSE

When we moved to Kansas we promised Abby a horse. Our original plan was to get a larger miniature, but as Abby grows we decided a full size horse would be a better choice. Dana Cole in California is a top horse trainer and had volunteered to help us find the perfect horse. She and her friend John said they would trailer the horse they found out to Kansas for us. Since we were not set up as the barn is in very poor condition we just figured Dana would let us know when she found the perfect horse. Well that happened in April of 2009.
STAR

This is the horse Miss Dana elected for Abby.
She is a five year old Arabian mare. We had all
kinds of special and fancy names picked out but
Abby wanted Star (because she has a star on her forehead)

Abby dreams about Star coming to Kansas
but we keep telling her that Miss Dana has
a lot of training to do with her. Plus Abby is
busy taking riding lessons so she can learn
how to care for a horse.

We all are waiting for new photos and will post hem when they arrive.

Abby is now taking riding lessons
Learning to ride on an English seat.

Abby is riding on a "soft saddle" to learn balance first.

The schooling horse Abby uses is a Quarter Horse that
is 16.2 hands (BIG!!!!) Star is 15 hands.

She has to groom him before saddling and is learning
to care for feet and put tack on.

Abby started lessons in April and is was still cool out.
We now do lessons early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Miss Kathy is a wonderful teacher and Abby likes her lessons.

The training/boarding facility is just 6 miles form the house.
The arena is a walk (or ride) from the barn across open fields.

The pond and front pasture.
We think will board Star here when she arrives to
make it easier to have Abby continue her lessons.
